2024 International Volleyball Hall of Fame Induction

Andy and the JX2 team welcomed me back again this year to direct video for the IVHF induction ceremony in Holyoke. This year we had the bonus excitement of their truck getting hit on 91 at the 391 interchange en route to deliver gear, which was unexpected and not particularly fun – more so for Joe than anyone else though. The truck got towed to us and we unloaded before it was then moved along to the repair shop, and from there the day continued without anything out of the ordinary.

Even with setting up stage, drape, lighting, audio, and video, we had plenty of time to spare before punching live. Switching two discrete MEs at once (one to the screens and the room and the other for the broadcast) as well as controlling video playback and graphics always breaks my brain a bit, but after about 10 minutes my fingers are able to move fast enough to compensate. Additionally, to keep budget down this year, the client elected to use PTZs rather than Andy’s extremely nice cameras connected back to CCUs at the truck, which in some ways complicated the show because it was tougher to dial in framing and picture. Regardless, a talented team of professionals made the event look and sound great, and the client was very happy.
