Life gets busy sometimes, and we actually hadn’t seen Eggy live in almost exactly a year since they played at Treehouse in celebration of their first anniversary, which ended up being a stripped down show after their drummer was in a car accident last minute. I’m shocked Treehouse only charged a $10 cover for this show, but I guess they just wanted to cover the cost of throwing a fun party.
This show was moved to 4pm to dodge a big snowstorm which worried me a bit – would a midafternoon show have the same vibe as one that starts after the sun goes down? They brought the heat so hard immediately that I actually forgot that it was so early in the day almost immediately. Maybe I’m getting old, but I also wasn’t complaining about getting home before 8:00.
Disclaimer: I thought it would look nice to record a bit wider to show off the really beautiful taproom at Treehouse, but midway through the first set the sun went down and it turned into just a poorly framed wide shot. For the second set I swapped to a tighter fixed lens that I had which had actually a bit too much zoom, and meant I wasn’t able to run active stabilization (which crops things a bit further). Poor planning, but luckily didn’t have too much of an impact. Second set is recorded at a far lower ISO because the fixed lens I swapped to is faster. Hot spots on stage were kind of a bummer, but I also know there wasn’t a full and proper lighting rig for this show.
Last but not least, shoutout to my new friend Al W. for being so kind and accommodating in the evening’s taper section of two! We’re both pretty new to this as a hobby, and it was great having someone to chat with. Hope to run into you again soon! Al’s audio recordings of both night are below if you want to listen to night one or his far more involved mix of the second night:
